The Faculty of Letters and Communication Sciences organises 3-year Undergraduate programmes, 2-year Master's degree and Doctoral programmes in the subject area- Philology.
The Undergraduate studies cover the subject area- Language and Literature, offering the following programmes: Romanian Language and Literature - Foreign Language and Literature (French/German), Romanian Language and Literature - Spanish Language and Literature, Romanian Language and Literature - Italian Language and Literature, French Language and Literature - Foreign Language and Literature (English/German), English Language and Literature - Romanian Language and Literature or German Language and Literature, Ukrainian Language and Literature - Romanian Language and Literature or Foreign Language and Literature (French/ English), Universal and Comparative Literature - Romanian Language and Literature or Foreign Language and Literature (Spanish/Italian/German); under the subject area- Applied Modern Languages, the programme - Applied Modern Languages (English/French) and under the subject area of Communication Sciences, a programme in Communication and Public Relations.
Since the academic year 2008-2009, we consider the introduction of a new Undergraduate programme, American Studies, under the subject area Cultural Studies.
Master's degree programmes cover the following areas: Persuasive Strategies of Language in Communication and Public Relations, British Culture and Civilization in the Context of Globalization, Semiotics in Mass-Media and Advertising, Present Trends in Romanian Language and Literature, Hermeneutics and Literary Ideology, Romanian Literature in the European Context, Theory and Practice of Translation (French/English/German).
The PhD programmes in the subject area- Philology are co-ordinated by the following supervisors: Professor Sanda-Maria ARDELEANU, PhD, Professor Ion-Horia BIRLEANU, PhD, Professor Albumita-Muguras CONSTANTINESCU, PhD, Professor Mircea A. DIACONU, PhD, Professor Vasile DOSPINESCU, PhD, Professor Ioan OPREA, PhD, Professor Rodica NAGY, PhD, Professor Elena-Brandusa STEICIUC, PhD.
The objectives of our Faculty are related to initiating and training students in the philological field, as well as in that of communication sciences. Thus, we conceive flexible courses well adapted to social conditions. At the same time, the objectives and thematic areas of each subject revalue the most modern trends in the field.
The modules offered by our faculty provide the students with training and instruction in the large area of humanities, assisting them into acquiring abilities specific to the field of philology and communication sciences, but also team work skills and the capacity to collaborate with specialists in other domains.
By recruiting students from all the Romanian provinces, and also from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, our faculty aims at ensuring the optimal instruction level, against the background of an extremely dynamic society and that of the present tendency towards a globalization of labour force. The expertise of the graduates of our faculty meets the scientific and professional requirements necessary in the labour market of Romania and the European Union. Thus, they are prepared not only for a teaching career, but also for scientific research and other activities specific to public servants.
Research
The research activities in the field are conducted within the Bukovina Seminar of Philology, as well as within the Inter Litteras and Discourse Analysis research centers.
International Relations
Our Faculty has concluded collaboration agreements and cooperation relations with other Universities in the European Union- from Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal- and organizes annual scientific conferences and events (Los Dias de la Hispanindad, Les Journees de la Francophonie, Messages, Sages and Ages, Mankind and Myth, International Colloquium of Language Sciences) to which foreign professors and writers are invited.
Our facilities include lecture halls, teaching and seminar rooms, reading rooms, libraries and phonetics laboratory, ethnography and multicultural studies laboratory, two informatics laboratories, an advertising and multimedia laboratory, as well as a laboratory of modern language learning and communication.
