The Faculty of History and Geography offers 3-year Undergraduate programmes, 2-year Postgraduate and 3-year Doctoral programmes in History, Geography and Philosophy. The Undergraduate programmes are structured according to the following subject areas: History, with programmes in History and Museology; International Relations and European Studies, with a programme in International Relations and European Studies; Geography, with programmes in Geography, Tourism Geography and Environmental Geography; Philosophy, programme in Philosophy; Political Studies, programme in Political Studies; Social Assistance, programme in Social Assistance; Communication Sciences, programme in Library and Information Science.
The Master's Degree programmes cover the following subject areas: The Romanians between the East and the West; Management of International Relations and Cross-border Cooperation; Tradition and Innovation in Cultural and Religious Tourism; Protection, Valorisation and Management of Heritage; European Studies; Assessment of Geographical Risk and Sustainable Devel;Land-Use Planning and GIS Tools, Tourism and Regional Development; Global Studies. Culture and Communication; Counselling and Management in Human Resources; Organisational Ethics and Ethical Auditing.
The PhD programmes in the subject area of History are supervised by: Professor Mihai Iacobescu, PhD, Professor Dumitru Sandru, PhD, Professor Gheorghe Onisoru, PhD and Professor Dumitru Vitcu, PhD.
The History subject area offers students the opportunity to become familiar with the local, national and international history. The graduates possess highly developed skills specific to history teachers, scientific researchers, museum curators, archeologists, archivists, as well as skills specific to consultants in history, cultural-historic tourism and mass-media.
The International Relations and European Studies subject area trains specialists in international relations, communication and public relations, counselors/consultants for European and national grants, for local administration, analysts and journalists.
The Geography subject area trains students to become: teachers, meteorologists/climatologists, hydrologists, researchers, counselors/consultants in issues of applied geography (land settlement and planning, administration of parks and natural reserves, local administration, elaboration, evaluation and application of environment and tourism programmes), tourism and environment agents.
The Philosophy subject area considers the thorough study of philosophy, history of sciences, language philosophy, esthetics, ethics, philosophy of religions.
The subject area of Political Sciences trains students to become specialists in political management, civil servants in local and central administration, specialists in political parties or NGOs, political analysts, civic education teachers, workers in communication, public relations and press.
The subject area of Social Assistance trains students to become: highly qualified social assistants, school counselors, workers in NGOs, researchers and analysts of the social phenomenon.
The subject area of Communication Sciences, programme- Library and Information Studies trains students to become: librarians, documentation specialists, archivists, specialists in communication and public relations.
Research
The Scientific research within the Faculty is supported by research projects financed according to national and international competition results. The research results are published in the Scientific Annals of the University ("Codrul Cosminului" -History series, Geography, Humanities series), in the ROCSIR and ROSLIR online journals, as well as in various monographs, thematic volumes and studies published in Romania and abroad.
Our Faculty staff undertake FP-6 programmes of the European Union in the field of History (The Network for Excellence in Research CLIOHRES.net, between 2005-2010, and the CLIOH2 programme, between 2006-2008), CEEX and PN2 projects (the Geography Department) and research grants, financed by CNCSIS and Romanian Academy (awarded to research teams from our faculty). The Applied Geography Research Center was founded in 2004 and has functioned fully-staffed ever since. The Faculty is highly reputed, as reflected in studies and subject area volumes published in Europe, Asia, North America, including journals peer reviewed by ISI Web of Knowledge.
International Relations
Our Faculty has agreements with highly reputed universities in England, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, etc. Our students and teaching staff members benefit from mobilities in these countries. Most of the contracts are carried out within the Erasmus and Socrates framework. Our students and staff in History participate annually in international Summer Schools in Suceava and Chernivtsi through a collaboration protocol with the University of Chernivtsi.
Our Faculty is equipped with lecture halls, seminar rooms,laboratories, Complexes of practical training at Galanesti, Vatra Dornei and Fetesti, modern electronic devices, access to the services of the University Library, Internet and Intranet (at the Informatics Center).
